Course Title: HIPAA for Health Plans - HIPAA - Fundamental Concepts
Course Series: eComply Healthcare
Description:
This course provides health plan professionals with a deeper understanding of some key areas of the HIPAA Privacy Rule by building on a current understanding of basic HIPAA concepts.
One of the goals of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, commonly known as "HIPAA," is to protect the privacy of patients' identifiable health information in the age of electronic transactions and record keeping. HIPAA seeks to accomplish this goal through the Privacy Rule: a set of complex, detailed regulations that specifies how protected health information (PHI) must be handled. Because health plans are explicitly subject to the Privacy Rule's requirements, and because HIPAA imposes severe penalties for non-compliance, it is vitally important for all health plan professionals to understand the profound effect the HIPAA Privacy Rule will have on the way they do business.
This course provides health plan professionals who already have a basic knowledge of the HIPAA regulations with a more detailed look at certain key areas of HIPAA compliance, including Treatment, Payment, and Operations (TPO), business associates, consents and authorizations, and members' rights and responsibilities.
