CCH, a part of Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, is a leading provider of research products and software solutions in key specialty areas for legal and business professionals. CCH has set the standard for research, compliance and reimbursement information for healthcare professionals, including attorneys, for over 50 years.

Challenge

Several years ago CCH, in conjunction with a leading professional services firm, produced a product line of over 100 healthcare compliance-focused eLearning courses. With the increase in use of online training particularly in large healthcare organizations, the format seemed just what the market needed. The courses were created and offered through a proprietary web-based LMS (learning management system). It wasn't long before CCH learned potential clients were not satisfied with the bundled approach (the courses required use of the proprietary LMS), sales were sluggish, and market research ensued.

Solution

CCH turned to CourseAvenue for several reasons.

CourseAvenue's collaborative authoring environment provided the type of development platform necessary for the quick conversion of 100+ courses. The conversion process consisted of exporting the content from the old system, importing this content into CourseAvenue Studio, and finally, reformatting, styling and branding. CourseAvenue's fully hosted, browser-based platform allowed for a group of contributors to set course structure, edit and format text, place graphics, and conduct quality control measures simultaneously, from around the world. Professionals from several offices in the Chicago area along with another in Delhi were all working on the courses at the same time. CCH management was impressed with CourseAvenue's hybrid eLearning features which allow clients to customize specific portions of the course, creating an individual "look and feel" to match an organization's branding. And since CourseAvenue allows for simple publication to any major standards-based (SCORM/AICC) LMS, organizations can now purchase the courses for use directly on their own learning system. All the courses' source files are now hosted on CourseAvenue's browser-based platform, therefore CCH has the ability to review and update the courses on their own as content changes and within their timeframes and schedules.

Lastly, CourseAvenue provided CCH with an exciting distribution channel for their newly converted compliance courseware. Through joint marketing agreements, several leading eLearning courseware distributors have chosen to add the healthcare compliance courseware to their online course offerings, taking advantage of CourseAvenue's simple syndication process.

Conclusion

As a major publisher of healthcare compliance content, CCH needed a multi-faceted eLearning company to assist in getting their courses out to the healthcare market. CourseAvenue, as a platform, as a conversion service provider, and as a distribution channel, was exactly what CCH was looking for.
